Adrian Athique | Lead Researcher

Adrian has written several books on international media including: The Multiplex in India: A Cultural Economy of Urban Leisure (with Douglas Hill, Routledge 2010), Indian Media: Global Approaches (Polity 2012), Digital Media and Society: An Introduction (Polity 2013) and Transnational Audiences: Media Reception on a Global Scale (2016). His work on Cultural Studies in Asia has seen him develop an international reputation and he is involved in a number of international collaborations and in the leadership of projects in the field. Prior to returning to UQ in December 2015 as Associate Professor in Cultural Studies, Adrian was the Chair of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Waikato. He had earlier been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies at UQ from 2006-2007.

Pradip Thomas | Lead Researcher

Pradip Ninan Thomas is an internationally recognised scholar and academic, and is currently based at the School of Communication & Arts (SCA), University of Queensland. He has published widely in areas including communication and social change, the political economy of communication, media and religion, and Indian media. He is known specifically for his attempts to expand, redraw and renew theory in communication and social change, and his many writings have introduced both theorists such as E. P. Thompson and Raymond Williams and concepts such as ‘contentious action’ from social movement studies to communication and social change theory.

Vibodh Parthasarathi maintains a multidisciplinary interest in media policy, business of creative industries and governance of media infrastructure. He is Associate Professor at the Centre for Culture, Media and Governance, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi — the only teaching centre/department across South Asia exclusively dedicated to media studies and policy. He co-edited the critically acclaimed Tri-series on Communication Processes (Sage) and a themed journal issue on public spheres and the media. His work has been variously supported by Ford Foundation, Social Science Research Council, India New Zealand Education Council, HIVOS, Indian Council for Social Science Research, Canada’s IDRC, India Foundation for the Arts, University Grants Commission and Open Society Foundation, whose country report on digital media he anchored.
Scott Fitzgerald | Lead Researcher

Dr Scott Fitzgerald is an Associate Professor in the School of Management at Curtin Business School, Curtin University. His research interests in the field of business and management are located in the broad areas of industrial relations, human resource management (3505), organisational behaviour and organisation studies (3507). His research expertise also spans various disciplines: sociology, political economy and media and communication studies.
Scott’s research is presently split into two distinct areas. The first research area is focused on the changing nature of governance, professionalism and work in the education sector. This research connects with his broader interest in public services and the state. His second research area covers the networked media economy, cultural industry corporations, and cultural work.
