The China team’s presentation at the 22nd Chinese Internet Research Conference (CIRC), held at Peking University in July 2025, was very well received. The conference brought together nearly a hundred scholars from around the world to discuss “The Future of the Chinese Internet in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”

Following the event, the School of Journalism and Communication at Peking University published a feature interview with Professor Min Jiang of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, highlighting her contributions to digital policy and internet research in China and the Global South. The story was later picked up by The Paper, a major Shanghai-based online newspaper.

In the interview, Professor Jiang discussed the growing global focus on AI and its social, political, and ethical implications. She emphasized both the opportunities and challenges posed by AI—ranging from creativity and employment to fairness and governance—and noted the importance of cross-cultural dialogue in understanding these issues. Jiang also spoke about her ongoing research projects, including Digital Sovereignty in the BRICS Countries (Cambridge University Press, 2025), a forthcoming volume on U.S.–China power relations, and her role in GMICP’s work to make media ownership data open and accessible worldwide.

Together, these initiatives reflect the expanding global engagement of the GMICP team and its commitment to advancing open, comparative media research.
