A report produced by the Sweden research team of the Global Media and Internet Research Project

This report examines media and internet market concentration in Sweden from 2018 to 2022, as part of the Global Media and Internet Concentration Project (GMICP). It covers four sectors: telecom and internet access, online and traditional media, core internet applications, and internet backbone services. The Swedish network media economy was valued at approximately SEK 173 billion in 2022. Key findings indicate moderate-to-high concentration across most sectors, near-monopolistic conditions in core internet applications dominated by US firms, declining traditional media revenues, and growing backbone infrastructure. The report also highlights significant gaps in available data, posing challenges for research and policymaking.
