We are pleased to announce a new publication co-authored by Ana Bizberge and Guillermo Mastrini, researchers involved in the Global Media and Internet Concentration Project (in collaboration with María Trinidad García Leiva). Their article, “SVoD in Europe and the Americas: A Comparative Approach to Regulatory Regimes,” published in the International Journal of Communication, examines the evolving regulation of subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) services from a comparative perspective.

Taking existing audiovisual regulatory frameworks as a point of departure, the study analyzes how content quotas and financial obligations are interpreted and implemented in European and American markets. While regulation of SVoD services remains in its early stages, findings reveal fragmented and varied approaches, with some alignment to existing audiovisual regimes. Notably, the study highlights the emergence of a new jurisdictional scope, raising the possibility of imposing obligations on companies based in other territories.
